At OneGenAway, the shopping cart is a vessel of hope. Every year, each one of our shopping carts is responsible for delivering over 20,000 meals to the vehicles of our neighbors. By sponsoring a cart, you are increasing its capacity for service!
Our Mission
Our mission is to share hope, honor, and dignity through food.
We believe that dignity and honor are inherent and equal in every human being. Sometimes, circumstances in our lives and systems in our world leave us feeling like our dignity and honor have been suppressed and our actions and choices have been stripped of their power.
OneGenAway exists to help remove barriers that leave us feeling this way and, in their stead, leave hope. Our topic of choice: food insecurity.
Our hope is that no one would have to make the choice between buying food and paying for another critical need, such as medication, utilities, or rent.
Our Vision
Our vision is to wipe hunger off the face of America by teaching people to love one another through service.
This is a lofty goal, and we do not by any means aim to reach it alone. This vision is one only fulfilled by a nationwide movement of people who wish to empower and care for their neighbors.
We believe, through service together, we can create communities where those who are walking through challenging times will carry a lighter load knowing that their neighbors have their backs.

What We Do
Food Rescue
In rescuing surplus food, mislabeled food, or any food that is good and nutritious but would otherwise be thrown out, we can cut down on food waste from grocery stores, restaurants, caterers, and farms while also striving for the elimination of food insecurity.
Food Distribution
We rescue and distribute fresh, high-quality foods to individuals and families in need throughout Middle Tennessee, Northern Alabama, and the Florida panhandle. We accomplish this by giving food directly to our neighbors through our mobile food pantry and by distributing food amongst a network of partnering agencies, including schools, homeless shelters, domestic violence shelters, other food pantries, and more. We bring food to places of need rather than asking those in need to come to us.
Disaster Relief
We also engage in disaster relief efforts throughout the southeastern U.S. We know that hurricanes, floods, and tornadoes can devastate entire communities in the blink of an eye, and community support doesn’t always last long enough for impacted households to get back on their feet again. We seek to provide long-term relief after major weather events, taking the burden of food off of those who are rebuilding their lives.
